Gutters do a quiet job until they stop doing it. When they work, rain comes off the roof, runs to the downspouts and leaves the house somewhere it cannot hurt anything. When they sag, leak at the seams, pull away from the fascia or overflow in every hard rain, that water ends up against the walls, over the doors, in the flower beds and along the foundation. In a city that gets as much heavy rain as Houston does, that adds up quickly.
Roofshire Construction installs new gutters and replaces old ones across greater Houston. Gutter work often goes together with a roof. One customer, whose two-story house got a new roof and new gutters from us, wrote that the pair elevated the house. When the roof is coming off anyway, it is the easiest moment to deal with the gutters too, and it means one contractor and one schedule instead of two.
We also replace gutters on their own, on houses where the roof is fine but the gutters are not. Either way it starts the same way: we come out, look at what you have, and give you a free estimate.

Gutter Work We Do
Most gutter jobs fall into one of a few situations. Here is how we approach each.
New gutters with a new roof
During a roof replacement the edge of the roof is opened up, and the gutters are often in the way of doing that edge properly. If they are old, dented or undersized, replacing them at the same time saves pulling them twice and finishes the eaves in one pass. We plan both together as one job.
Replacing gutters that have failed
Gutters fail in familiar ways: sections that sag between hangers, joints and end caps that drip, corners that split, runs that have pulled loose from the house, and gutters that were never pitched right and hold standing water. When enough of the system is in that state, replacing it makes more sense than chasing one leak at a time. We look at the whole run and tell you honestly which situation you are in.
Gutters damaged by a storm
Hail dents gutters and downspouts, and strong wind can pull runs off the house. Dented gutters are also one of the easier signs from the ground that a storm hit the roof. If you are seeing storm damage on the gutters, have the roof checked as well; our hail and storm damage page explains what a free inspection looks for.
Adding gutters where there are none
Some homes have gutters on part of the house and none on the rest, or none at all. If water is pouring off an eave onto a walkway, a patio or the side of the house, adding gutters and downspouts there can solve it. We walk the house with you and talk through where the water should go.
Signs It Is Time to Look at Your Gutters
You do not need a ladder to spot most gutter problems. Walk around the house during or right after a good rain and watch where the water goes.
- Water spilling over the front edge of the gutter instead of reaching the downspout.
- Drips or streams from seams, corners or end caps.
- Sections that sag, lean outward or have pulled away from the house.
- Stains or peeling paint on the wall or trim below the gutter line.
- Puddles or washed-out soil at the bottom of downspouts, or along the foundation.
- A lot of shingle granules collecting in the gutters, which points at the roof as well.
If you see more than one of these, it is worth having someone look. Water that keeps running down a wall will eventually find its way behind the trim and siding. If that has already happened, we do siding as well, and if water has reached the inside of the house, we can handle the drywall once the source is fixed.
Gutters and the roof work as one system. A roof that sheds water well into gutters that cannot carry it still leaves the house wet. That is why, when we look at gutters, we look up at the roof edge too, and when we inspect a roof, we check the gutters. If you want both looked at, ask for a free roof inspection and mention the gutters when you call.
